Warts, Eruptions & Miasms (Genetic Predisposition)

Warts are a symptom of Sycosis Miasm (caused by human papillomavirus - HPV)

Amazon Customer Reviews for Thuja Occidentalis 30c mostly indicate miraculously effective usage for warts and skin eruptions in humans and for pets, too, mostly written by people. Reviews indicate amazing results in eliminating warts of many kinds and also for some kinds of skin eruptions and even for a case of allergies in conjunction with Natrum Muriaticum. I find Thuja to be helpful for a much greater range of conditions, as indicated below.

Explanation of wart types and contagion: https://hpathy.com/homeopathy-papers/scope-of-homoeopathy-in-warts/

Homeopathic teaching is that miasms are inherited tendencies or susceptibilities to disease and are passed down through the generations. There are now 8 or 9 miasms that have been identified. Generally we prefer to treat life's traumas and illnesses first, before tackling inherited miasms. However, when the cause of a current illness is rooted in a flare-up of a misam, we must now address the miasm. http://www.homeopathycenter.org/homeopathy-today/thought-behind-action-miasms-psora-syphilis-sycosis

Compare and contrast two main anti-sycotic remedies, THUJA OCCIDENTALIS and ARGENTUM NITRICUM (there are others) to identify and illustrate the fundamental nature of the sycotic personality. Sycosis is not the same as Psychosis (mental condition), although pronounced the same.

Thuja Occidentalis (Potency's indicated below)

In an Abstract from National Institutes of Health, infection with Human papillomavirus (HPV) is necessary, but not sufficient cause for cervical cancer. Studies indicate genetic marker is involved in cervical cancer susceptibility. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28542881

What Homeopathy has known for 200 years, science has just recently discovered. It is the genetic damage done by illness in previous generation(s) that can lead to symptoms in the current population. Modern medicine knows that ills of the parents or grandparents are more likely to occur in the offspring. That is the basis for the chronic miasms that are part of Homeopathic teaching.

The Sycosis miasm is a predisposition to a particular complex of ailments, passed down and caused by genetic damage due to gonorrhea disease, at the time called “fig-wart disease” (“sucon” in Greek means fig). One of its main characteristics are warts. (The FDA site identifies the "human papillomavirus as infecting 4 out of 5 people at some time in their lives. There are over 100 different kinds of HPV and not all of them cause health problems - some go away on their own. Some kinds of HPV may cause problems like genital warts. Some kinds of HPV can also cause cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, or anus." The FDA says there is no cure for the virus. Treating the warts does not cure the virus.)

(Homeopathy prefers to relieve the susceptibility that allows the virus to take root and to relieve predispositions to associated ailments.)

Extreme excess is the main expression of Sycosis in all areas – our appetites are for food, excitement, action - bring it on.

Sycosis is root cause of most “-itis” diseases - with inflammation and copious discharges. Typical are memory problems, slowness, dumb feeling and being sensitive about it.

Miasms have seasonal effects, Sycosis season is spring - early budding of flowers, a time for growth, expansion, coming to life again. Allergies can be rooted in sycosis and have a flare up due to human papillomavirus or other causes in spring.

Sycotic eruptions, such as warts, condylomata, polypi, and pathological vegitations - these are indications calling for THUJA OCCIDENTALIS - http://www.homeoint.org/books/boericmm/t/thuj.htm

From the Homeopathic Materia Medica, (Link to new edition on Amazon)                     9th Edition, June, 1927 (Beauty of Homeopathy - What was true then, is still true today):

Thuja is a wide-ranging remedy on its own and also Anti-Sycotic. It acts on skin, blood, gastro-intestinal tract, kidneys, and brain. Ill effects following vaccination; not well since. Works well to treat of ailments following suppressed gonorrhea. Urethritis in sycotic patients, not relieved by CANN-S. (Cannabis Sativa); stream split, cutting after urination; discharge thick. Eruptions only on covered parts, sweat only on uncovered parts. Rapid exhaustion and emaciation. Fixed ideas. Strange mental symptoms. Emotional sensitiveness, music causes weeping and trembling. Neuralgias in head, eyes, chronic catarrh in nose and dryness in nose. May have chronic otitis in ear, loss of appetite, sinking in stomach before food, flatulence and distension of abdomen, Urethritis, male and female symptoms, papilloma of larynx, limbs feel as if made of wood or glass, and skin symptoms such as polypi, tubercles, warts, epithelioma, carbuncles, ulcers, freckles, brown spots and blotches, herpetic eruptions, nails crippled, brittle, soft; insomnia,

Modalities: worse - cold, damp air (hydrogenoid constitution), worse after vaccination, excessive tea drinking, extension of limbs. Better - drawing up limbs.

The Homeopathic teaching is that individuals needing Thuja feel like there is something wrong with them and they compensate by extreme strategies of subterfuge both toward themselves and others. The more primal drives do not show in the personality. They can become disconnected from themselves in an elaborately constructed social persona designed to appear virtuous, calm and above reproach . This disassociation may lead them to feeling weak and fragile in their bodies. The excess of mental control and rigidity in thinking results in rigidity in the physique. They can be cruel and obsessive in mind and arthritic in body.

Sycosis produces a skeptical, non-believer style of thinking. People with strong sycotic miasms are very hard to convince. They are often sullen, irritable, and fixed in their ideas. They may feel up, and later, deeply depressed. The sycotic depression is a tiredness bordering on exhaustion and collapse.

Sycotic miasm is the maim miasm responsible for rheumatoid arthritis, tourette syndrome, MS, fibromyalgia, herpes, impotence, sterility problems. It can create arthritis with swelling of joints, stitching in chest, shortness of breath, weakness while walking.

Other symptoms of the sycotic miasm include: forgetfulness, dullness, manipulative, suspicious (paranoid), anger, fear of dark, rebellious, panic attacks, nausea, headaches, sore throat, runny nose, canker sores in mouth, nose bleeds, chronic diarrhea, stuttering, bipolar disorders, overeating, chronic lateness, alcoholism, drug abuse, obsessive-compulsiveness, violence, emphysema. (Thuja is a main remedy for symptoms of the sycosis miasm, others include Argentum Nit, Natrum Sulph, Sabina and at least 17 more.)

Complementary to Thuja: Sabina, Arsenicum, Nat Sulph, Silica.

(Sabina - See Article: Menses Heavy, Long, Painful – Joint Pain, Warts - Amazon Customer Reviews: Many say "Sabina - extremely helpful for heavy, painful menstrual cycles".)

Sycosis means fig in Greek. Its usage here refers to fig warts, warts, bumps, and eruptions on mucous membrane / skin surfaces – externally and also internally and even intestinal, including mucosal thickening.

Dr Hahnemann was the founder in 1796 of Homeopathy – based on the law of similars: let likes cure likes. Homeopathy is the 2nd most widely used system of medicine and is the most tolerable by the body. Dr Hahnemann recognized three (now eight)  chronic miasms, which complicated the treatment of all diseases. They were syphilis, psora and sycosis. Psora is defined in the homeopathic literature as an “itch”. Sycois is defined below as eruptions.

According to Hpathy Ezine by EB Nash, October 2014: https://hpathy.com/e-books/leaders-in-homeopathic-therapeutics-by-e-b-nash/thuja-occidentalis-thuj-10/

Dr Hahnemann’s chief anti-psoric was Sulphur (I would usually use Sulphur 200x or 200c for deeper effect - when indicated by internal heat), his anti-syphilitic was Mercury (Mercurius Solubilis 30c or 200c), and his chief anti-sycotic was Thuja Occindentalis 30c or 200c.

It was Dr Hahnemann’s theory is that these three remedies correct certain exiting states or conditions of the system which seem to obstruct the curative action of other seemingly well-indicated remedies.

Thuja either cures or makes changes to the existing conditions so that other remedies will now cure what they could not cure before Thuja was given. Many disease states in the body come under this rule.

When there are warts, condylomata, fig-warts, and other sycotic eruptions, which may or may not be the result of gonorrheal affections, or suppressed gonorrhea, we think of Thuja. Gonorrhea is a common infection that, in many cases, causes no symptoms. You may not even know that you're infected. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gonorrhea/symptoms-causes/syc

Described in the Hpathy Ezine, is a case of urethritis in the hospital that did not respond to any treatment. Then finally the doctors noticed that the patient had warts on his hands. They gave Thuja to clear the Sycotic miasm and then were able to successfully treat the urethritis.

Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia with generalized warts

From an abstract published in World J Gastroenterol. 2015 Jul 21

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4507119/

Intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) is a rare disease, characterized by an abnormal lymphatic system of small intestinal wall and mesentery inducing leakage of lymphocytes and protein loss into the gastrointestinal tract. It can be classified as primary and secondary IL according to the cause.

Secondary IL may not be so rare, as according to the abstract, it can have various causes such as infections, parasitic infections and intestinal inflammations causing some damage to the intestines and mesentery which allows infection by the human papillomavirus – and eventually warts may appear.

Intestinal lymphangiectasia in adults

From an abstract published in World J Gastrointest Oncol. 2011 Feb 15

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3046182/

Intestinal lymphangiectasia in the adult may be characterized as a disorder with dilated intestinal lacteals causing loss of lymph into the lumen of the small intestine and resultant hypoproteinemia, hypogammaglobulinemia, hypoalbuminemia and reduced number of circulating lymphocytes or lymphopenia. Symptoms include protean loss, bilateral edema of the lower limbs, ascites, and protein in stool.

Treatment for Intestinal lymphangiectasia seems to be low fat / high protean diet. I have not determined a specific homeopathic treatment, but I would look at the causes – infections, parasites including candida and intestinal inflammations – which are covered elsewhere on this site.

Conclusion:

I suspected I had some condition in the intestinal tract that may have been internal warts and manifested as a blockage on the left side with chilliness, worse during full moon. I also had a wart under my fingernail.

I did not realize then that the presence of warts may indicate that my immune system is compromised and my healing is stalled due to the Sycosis miasm, as explained above.

For several years, I took Thuja 30c, as it relieved the blockage and the symptoms – then one day small wart-like excrescences came out on my hand and then on the other hand. I think this was the virus being pushed from internally out to the skin. I continued to occasionally take Thuja 30, when I feel a blockage on the left side with chilliness and worse during full moon; and after many months the wart-like bumps on my hands began to diminish and finally went away completely and have not recurred. The wart under my fingernail is either gone or so small that I cannot see it anymore.

Recovery from chronic fatigue, and irritable bowel syndrome is under way and my general health is greatly improved and I have gained a little weight, which I needed to do. I think I am clearing the Sycosis miasm successfully by taking Thuja, and that is allowing other therapies to work.

Complementary to Thuja are: Natrum Sulphuricum, Arsenicum, Silica and Sabina. I seem to find that I derive great benefit from taking the complement of Homeopathic medicines, when symptoms of the complement are evident.

Natrum Sulphuricum (Nat Sulph) 30x – a liver remedy, worse rainy weather / music saddens, for meningitis, injuries to head, tendency to warts on fingers / toes, Sycotic excrescences like warty bumps, heat in head, violent pain back of head / base of brain, bitter taste, acid dyspepsia, feel like vomiting, duodenal catarrh, flatulent colic ascending colon, loose stool, large stool, painful cough, asthma, inflammation around root of nails, hot and burning soles, rheumatic pains, itching. Complementary: Arsenicum, Thuja

Arsenicum 30x or 30c– Debility, great exhaustion, irritable weakness, burning pains relieved by heat. Fear, fright , worry, ill effects of too much fruit, ptomaine poisoning, putrid discharges, septic infections and low vitality, great anguish and restlessness, changes positions, burning in eyes, acrid tears, photophobia (dislike lights), ear or nose drainage burns, burning in tongue, throat, stomach, abdomen, rectum, hemorrhoids, urine, female, chest, back, extremities, skin. Cannot bear sight or smell of food – Nausea, retching, gastralia – stomach sore, abdomen swollen, stool small, offensive, dark. Ill effects of vegetable diet, fruits, vinegar - causes gurgling and rumbling before other symptoms get started (that is when I take Arsenicum 30x or 30c and that way I usually avoid all the other symptoms.

Argentum Nitricum

Silver nitrate (Arg Nit), a poisonous compound, is no longer used medicinally for eye infections. It is used in the development of photographs, due to sensitivity to light, and in production of explosives. Photophobia and epilepsy are symptoms of Arg Nit, brought on by flashing lights.

Homeopathic teaching is that the Arg Nit patient can have very good, “photographic” memories - and, yes, I am and I do have a fairly good "photographic" memory.

When in an Arg. Nit. state, one is hurried, anxious and excitable, feels pressure from dead lines and may fear failure. May be riddled with phobias, superstitions, strange ideas that stick in their heads leading them to act in what may seem to be an irrational manner.

They are highly loquacious, determined troubleshooters who are intellectually omnivorous. Anxiety about performance can lead to gastric problems, “explosive” flatulence, eructations and diarrhoea. With all the mental energy, nerves can also become frazzled, with heart palpitations and in extreme cases, epilepsy. They are warm blooded and crave sugar. Two key issues for the Arg Nit state are fear of losing control and needing expanded personal boundaries. The Arg Nit state is feeling somehow internally disordered, set apart from others and perhaps even despised. They fear insanity and fear failure. They must maintain control and “hold it together”, prevail in times of crisis or alternatively, drop everything and leave on a whim, if their escapist tendencies arise. They are accelerated, impulsive, getting into everything around them and may lack a sense of social appropriateness, and may be extremely direct. Their anxiety can be worsened, if temporal or spacial boundaries are set around them, blocking any means of flight. They are better for open spaces.

Sycotic Nature of the remedies

As already noted, the sycotic miasm is one of extremes on every level of the person. Both Thuja and Arg Nit exhibit extreme overreaction to negative internal feelings resulting in excess mental activity, where fixed or obsessive ideas and a desire to maintain control result in disordered mental behavior distracting them from - their dark inner feelings of somehow being deficient. This is done with polish and control in Thuja, but Arg Nit distracts himself with frenetic activity. The flip side of this extreme, is weakness and both remedies experience symptoms of physical weakness along with obsessive worry about the state of their health and low self esteem. Physical overproduction is marked in both remedies. In growths and discharges for Thuja, whereas this is cheifly expressed in flatulence for Arg Nit. Mentally, both remedies are extreme with Arg Nit in particular turning this into a torrent of verbiage. Ultimately, both would rather not face their primal energies, which causes one to hide and the other to take flight.
